Pianist/Composer Richard Drehoff Jr. is based in Baltimore, MD. Richard’s works have been premiered and performed internationally by the Mivos Quartet, the ECCE Ensemble, members of Ensemble Paramirabo, and the New Mexico Contemporary Ensemble, among many others across Europe and North America. An active pianist, Richard is the Co-Director and performs regularly with earspace, a North Carolina-based ensemble dedicated to cultivating invigorating, site-specific performances of modern works. Richard also founded the Chapel Hill Contemporary Music Ensemble, which premiered over twenty new compositions during his tenure as conductor.
Richard graduated from the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, MD with master’s degrees in composition and theory pedagogy. He previously attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, focusing on music education, classical and jazz piano, and math. Richard firmly believes in working with students to come to their own realizations about music from all genres, encouraging students to diversify their musical interests.
